Weekly Summary (3/11 – 3/17)

This week was mostly spent on the radio show project. Most everything I would have to say about the project was already covered in my radio project week 2 blog post (found here: http://igtherioncrossek.com/uncategorized/radio-show-week-2/). The radio show itself will be linked as soon as the group member who said they were going to upload it uploads it. Edit: The radio show went live (https://soundcloud.com/yjang/radio-show-final) Besides that, my two daily creates are as follows. @ds106dc #ds106 I find seasonal change zen so I made a season clock. pic.twitter.com/twJM2n5h8g — Igtherion Crossek (@Igtherion) March 13, 2017 @ds106dc #ds106 pic.twitter.com/s1mbAuLaVk — Igtherion Crossek

Radio Show week 2

Week 2 was much more productive than week one. People put their heads to it and wrote a script. The voicing felt a bit late in the process, but I hope it came out decently. I would say I did not have asĀ  much fun with this project as I thought I would. Proper communication was the largest hurdle to overcome during this project. People’s schedules clashed so much it was difficult to get together to write the script together all at once, or even have multiple people together to bounce ideas off of. Script writing aside it was confusing

Weekly summary (2/25-3/3)

This week was a return to audio techniques in preparation for the radio show project we will have to be doing. All in all I feel like the assignments gave me more experience in audacity which is pretty nice since it is a pretty useful program. The biggest downside of the week was just trying to get in touch with the group to communicate. While some communicated it was not everyone, and even then communication felt a bit static instead of a dynamic back and forth. http://igtherioncrossek.com/uncategorized/row-row-polyphony/ http://igtherioncrossek.com/uncategorized/sound-effects/ http://igtherioncrossek.com/uncategorized/favorite-song/ @ds106dc #ds106 pic.twitter.com/q118T4aRsi — Igtherion Crossek (@Igtherion) February 27, 2017 @ds106dc

Row Row Polyphony

This was based on the assignment found here (http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/row-row-polyphony/). A polyphony is when a subsequent chorus of the same verse chimes in during a song. So with this assignment it was a matter of not only recording the base song, in this case row row row your boat, but having subsequent verses of row row row your boat join in. It was fairly simple to make although really odd to listen to, especially with my inability to sing.

Sound effects

I did this based on the assignment found here (http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/sounds-effects/) We had to make a sound effect. One type of sound effect I really like are quiet or subtle ones, so I went with a sort of quiet clinking crackle noise. https://www.freesound.org/people/Shamilt2/sounds/382754/

Favorite Song

I made this based on the assignment found here (http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/favorite-song/). The assignment wanted us to take one of our favorite song’s and remove the lyrics, while trimming it down to around 30 seconds or so. I find a lot of songs sound odd to me without lyrics, however “kids with guns” by Gorillaz is pretty good without lyrics as it just becomes a very relaxed beat.

Weekly summary (2/18-2/24)

This week had us looking at elements of design. Of all the things we have looked at so far I must say that this one was the strangest feeling since design seemed much like base photography for a bit, however design focuses much more on the principles of what makes it aesthetically pleasing and efficient. Ultimately when it came to the assignments I was not that engaged compared to prior weeks, however, the reading “Vignelli Canon” was highly interesting and I am really glad I read it. In fact, I am really tempted to re-read it. http://igtherioncrossek.com/uncategorized/design-thoughtsideas/ http://igtherioncrossek.com/uncategorized/advertising-using-a-cartoon-character/ http://igtherioncrossek.com/uncategorized/minimalist-tvmovie-poster/ http://igtherioncrossek.com/uncategorized/motivational-poster/

Design Thoughts/Ideas

I read the Vignelli Canon for this one. Probably one of the most simple, yet most efficient things discussed in this piece was the concept of Syntactic consistency. When things do not display this concept it really bothers me, probably more so than the average person, because despite my lax approach to most things, I am a tad bit obsessive compulsive. This stance was even more highlighted by the “design without discipline is anarchy” line. Another thing I have noticed is that while the works presented are not minimalistic, they are definitely advocating a form of simplicity and in that

Advertising Using a Cartoon Character

This was based on the assignment found here (http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/advertisement-using-a-cartoon-character/). My mind was on pies and a friend who was talking to me mentioned teen titans and I remembered this one scene from teen titans go of all things. Some would say you probably should not work hungry, but I feel like it payed off this time.

Minimalist TV/Movie Poster

This was based on the assignment found here (http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/minimalist-tvmovie-poster/). I tried to make a minimalist poster for the show mobile suit gundam. I tried to make the head of the titular unit. It was difficult trying to convey it so it is remotely recognizable without adding too many details.
